23) explain the purpose of meiosis.

24) explain the purpose of a punnett square and explain the proper way to construct and use one in a genetic cross.

25) explain the difference between the term: phenotype, genotype, homozygous, heterozygous, dominant and recessive.

26) explain the modern definition of a gene and distinguish it from that of an allele.

27) define a fossil and explain its importace as evidence to support the process of evolution.

28) define and explain the following terms:
a. evolution
b. natural selcetion
c. acquired characteristic
d. derived characteristic
e. shared characteristic
f. homologous and analogous structures
g. vestigial organs

29) list the major taxonomic groups from the most inclusive the the most specific.

30)identify the three domains and six kingdoms of life on earth and then list the major characteristics associated with each group.

31) explain the importance of a scientific name.

32) define and explain the role of each of the following terms in ecology:
a. population
b. community
c. biosphere
d. niche
e. food web
f. producer
g. food chain
h. consumer(primary and secondary)
i. decomposer
j. energy pyramid
k. trophic levels
l. carbon, water, and nitrogen cycle

33) explain hoe energy is transferred throught he various trophic levels of the ffod chain.

34) interpret both exponential and logarithmic growth curves. which one demostrates a carrying capacity.

35) identify and discuss tha factors that affect the growth of a population.

36) analyze and explain the change in population size of both the predato and the prey over time.

37) explain the impact of burning fossil fuels on global warming.
relate the term- green house effect.

38) explainwhy plants or any other organism with chlorophyll (phytoplankton) are so vital to life on earth.

23.) Meiosis is the process of cell splitting in the male and female sex cells (or Gametes)

24.) Punnett squares show you the possible outcomes of genetic mixing. Step 1: make a perfect square (2 x 2 or a 3 x 3) then on the outsides of the squares write whatever genetic trait you need. then fill in on each square whatever two outside genetic traits intersect.

25.) Just look it up (phenotype and genotype have to do with plants)

28.) Evolution - the process of an organism changing overtime in order to best accommodate that organisms environment
Natural selection - The basic rule that the strongest will always survive

31.) In any science, Latin names are important because it creates a universal understanding. (so in other words the scientific name for a house cat would be the same in Japan even though we speak a different language)

33.) In the food chain you must start with the plants. Plants receive energy from the sun through a process called photosynthesis. Next up is herbivores (plant eaters). These animals must get their energy from plants by consuming them. Next are carnivores who have to eat other animals to get energy. (Also note Omnivores ie. humans - who eat both plants and animals to get energy). Finally we reach decomposers/Scavengers these animals and various fungi need dead organisms or plants in order to get their energy.

I think I've helped you enough. Dude this is simple stuff. peace

35)The reason growth on are earth happens is because each year thosand of people are born each year. The effect it has on the population is mostly that it grows. It doesn't have to much effect, but over time it could. The food is more expensive, becasue there is more people.

Also try looking at some science websites and looking and at a science book, it will help you find the answer faster.

What you should do is take yourself and pay a visit to the library and get a few text books. Then take them home and read them to find out the answers for you homework. I did that once and it really helped. Hope I could help.
Thanks

23. the process of meiosis is to produce haploid gametes (sperm and egg)

24. help predict the genotype frequency of offspring

25. phenotype - physical expression of gene
homozygous - AA or aa
heterozygous - Aa
dominant - A
recessive - a

34. logarithmic growth curve demonstrates carrying capacity, exponential keeps increasing with no cap off

hopefully that helped a bit. my answers are by no means thorough, they're just to get you started. you need to look up the rest on your own--its part of the learning process. good luck!
