There is no bench mark quantity for the minimum amount required to invest in share market.. you can even start your investment with Rs 100.. since you say that you are a beginner, please do a systematic study about the market and its behavior. Be aware of the terms and conditions (the commission charges of your agent, details regarding tax to be paid etc etc) before you even make your first investment. Since you are a beginner, choose a handful of companies (which have a good brand name, showing a good turnover and profit and its reliability), make a study on it ie its behavior over the past few months of trading session. Once you are done with all these, you go ahead and make your investment..

As a thumb rule, never invest more than 30% of your savings in the stock market as this is a volatile one and you cant get back your invested money as and when you require..

In case you want further details, there are exams conducted by NSE for all levels (right from beginners to agents) where you can get registered, get information and clear those exams. This might be a good exercise for you.. you can get further details in "www.ncfm.com"

All the best with your investment.

It all depends on your desire, ability, expertness, courage and timeliness. It is not the amount,it is the stability and sustainability of the market. You should always invest in the reputed company or sectors. Before investing in the share market, you should look in to their past and present profile and volatility. You should be well updated all the time for the market scenario. If you want to invest for a long time, then you should invest in reputed organization. And if you want a short time gain, you should invest in reputed companies with high fluctuation.

Dear Friend,
I’m agreeing with the other friend who suggested 10,000 rupees for a beginner. That sounds like real because I also started at this level. The one other major thing you should keep in mind is that the TRADING PLATFORM you choose should be smart enough I use and advice you for RELIANCE MONEY.
This you need to start and when you trade the advice goes like this that keep track on a limited no of share at a time not to keep more than 4 stock in your portfolio. For tracking the market you can use website i.e. www.moneycontrol.com and advice to see a program that is STOCK 20-20 on CNBC AWAAZ or log on www.awaaz.in and see the same thing on the KAMAI section.
By following this you can earn a handsome profit.

Rs.10,000/- is sufficient for a beginner
Join in any share broker office near your office/residence
Always purchase the shares on delivery basis and sell when you get profit of 10%

Don't enter into day trading; it may look profitable for some time but
it has lot of pitfalls where you will loose your entire money.

God Bless you

Oh, it is sufficient for a beginner. you have to watch before throwing your money in to the ring. Pan, De-mat are essential . the money you have to invest is adequate.1. don't put all the eggs in one basket.
2. don't put you money in high volatile shares which is very flexible up and down. go steady and do it.
all the best.

I started with 10,000/- only. Guidance? You watch the movements firtst
and then select the shares you want to invest
selection there are some shares they will slowly but surely move upwards there are some shares highly volatile that is even 100 Rs difference even within a day ex , sbi icici

for short time trading select highly fluctuating ones and for long terms
slow but sure shares

Then start trading
ADVICE nobody is expert and nobody can always predict correctly
it always or perhaps sometimes depends upon your luck.

Wish you best of luck

10,000 is a good amount to start with start by investing in psu's like petronet LNG, neyvelli lignite, and remember one thing what ever profit you gain separate it from your principal money and wait for a week before reinvesting, and still if you are bit worried try playing the stock game with virtual money on moneybhai.com it basically trades in nse and every beginner should trade in nse only its more secure and stable

Hi, Rs. 10000 is a good amount to start with because if you earn profit then your confidence in share market will increase and if you loose, it won't burn any big hole in your pocket. You should go to the following site, here will find some really useful tips on this topic.
