Hi! I haven't been on in such a while, but was wondering what the yahoo community thought about this.

We are down to 3 places for our reception. The ceremony will take place at my church and our possible reception sites are either 10 minutes from the church, 40 minutes, or an hour away from the church.

These are different than places I've posted about before.

The 10 minute away place has hotels 25-30 minutes away from it.

The 40 minute from the church place has a hotel 10 minutes from it.

And the place an hour from the church has hotels 3 minutes from it.

Now, I know that every area is different, but since I'm not wondering about close friends or family members, I thought maybe checking here was worth a shot.

Also, the reason I'm wondering is would it matter the distance that you lived from either the church or reception hall. Like what would you do if you lived 45 minutes from the church and then had to travel another hour to the reception, and is in the opposite direction?

Would you go for a casual friend, acquaintance or coworker?

Would the distance to the church from your house be the deciding factor?

Or would you base your decision on the distance between the church and the reception?

Or how far the reception spot was from a hotel?

Or how close the reception spot was to your house, and therefore how far you would have to drive at the end of the night?

Just trying to get a gage on how far people in general are willing to travel for friends, acquaintances and coworkers.

Thanks!

Friends - as far as my wallet will allow...even pushing that ;)

Acquaintances - more than likely I wouldn't show up...unless the reception is someplace really good. Otherwise I'd be a no-show for an acquaintance

Coworker - If I was close to them, i.e. friend, then I would show up to the ceremony and reception or just the ceremony (if the reception was in the opposite direction of my house). If I'm not that close to them, then it would be the same as an acquaintance...probably no-show.

I think if the reception is being held further away than what someone is willing to travel, then they would probably just attend the wedding.

If it were one of my friends or co-workers I would travel up to 3 or 4 hours just to support them, especially if there are hotels within a reasonable distance from the reception.

Good Luck on your big day!

I wouldn't mind a bit of a drive to the reception but would like to be close to the hotel when I am ready to leave the reception.

I would never turn a wedding invite into an overnight hotel stay for an acquaintance or co-worker that I'm not particularly close to. I don't know where you live but any hotel in my area starts at $200/night. Of course if it were a good friend, my husband & I would go & try to turn it into a fun weekend if we're spending a lot already on gifts & hotels. But for a co-worker, I would say my max is a 1 hour drive each way. If the reception was in the entirely opposite direction, I would probably just attend the ceremony & head back home.

For me the primary deciding factor is how far I would have to drive at the end of the night and if that includes having to shell out for a hotel or if I could make it all the way back home.

For a friend, I'd do my best no matter the case.
Acquaintence, I'd go so long as the reception were within an hour from home ( i could always leave a little early if i had that far to go ).
For co-workers it would depend upon if I would consider them a friend or acquaintence and I'd apply what I mentioned above.

When I first read this tittle, I thought you were going to be talking about a destination wedding. Then, I read the question. Yes, an hour is a little far to drive; however, it's not unreasonable.

Good friends and family will absolutely be in attendance, because traveling an hour to a loved ones wedding is hardly a burden. As for acquaintances and friends, I think you'll get a good turn out.

Plus, you're never going to please everyone. Someone is always going to have to drive a little farther to get there, unless everyone you're inviting happens to live in the same town. But, that would be such a rare situation.
